Professa Prince

Prince arrived in New York in 2018 from Florida, bringing his first child, who was a year old at the time, along with him. His last paycheck went to the cost of the train ticket. He was unhoused, and the City shifted him around several shelters, until he got a housing placement in Bed-Stuy, where he lives with his now seven-year-old son. His one-year-old son was born in 2023 in Brooklyn.

He fell in love with house music in 2023, when he met two friends that he’d made online in person. They kept him up playing their favorite house music hits. Prince, historically an R&B lover, was euphoric listening to the genre. House felt like the start of a new chapter for his life. And he decided he wanted to share that feeling with everyone. He started making long playlists to play off his laptop at parks around the city, and as he performed, he watched how people reacted, and adjusted his songs accordingly. Since that early endeavor, Professa Prince has become a fixture in Bed Stuy’s vibrant Herbert Von King park where he spins for the community and dancers alike.
