Springtime for Roller Skating in Central Park —
This has been a very unusual spring for skating in New York City. After many years, two famous ice skating rinks — the Wollman and Rockefeller Center — have opened for roller skating in the warmer months. Suddenly, there are a number of alternatives to the Skate Circle. Actually, it comes at a good time for us; at least, theoretically. We have been told that the long awaited resurfacing of the North End of Skaters Road would happen this year. We are very happy to hear it and will be happier when we see it and skate on it.
Initially, we were told that the work would start in the second week of June, ending just before the July 4th weekend. That didn’t happen. But we had a really wonderful June, so it wasn’t like we were suffering. We are eager for the new, smooth, unbroken surface to skate on. So, we are hopeful. […]
